In what is a brave move from Arsene Wenger, Arsenal are reportedly in talks with Leicester City to sign their star striker Jamie Vardy (via BBC).
The Gunners are said to have triggered the 29-year-old’s buyout clause which is suggested by the BBC to be in the region of £20m.
While the England international enjoyed a remarkable season last year, netting an incredible 11 goals in consecutive games to break the Premier League record, his reliability at the top level remains questionable and whether he just enjoyed a purple patch last campaign.
Vardy played an integral role in the Foxes memorable Premier League title win and is viewed as a pacey centre forward that is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Would he fit into Arsenal’s system and be the world class centre forward we need? Debatable. But for £20m it’s a steal for a player whose determination and work rate can go a long way to replace injured Danny Welbeck next season.
With Theo Walcott’s future up in the air and Welbeck likely to be absent for most if not all of next season, Arsenal need two strikers to compliment and compete with Olivier Giroud. It seems Wenger has taken a fancy to Vardy and could snatch up our vacant Number 9 shirt this summer.
