Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry, has hit out at Jose Mourinho, who directed a jibe at the Gunners so as to hear up the atmosphere ahead of the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Responding to claim by Mourinho that Arsenal are rejoicing in the woe of others because they have nothing to rejoice over, Henry declared:
“It’s going to be a weird one, it’s going to be the first one where it’s going to be in this type of situation,” he told ESPN. “It’s going to be funny to hear Mourinho talk about it.
“I saw the other day he already started to have a go at Arsenal, that was pretty funny at the end of the day.
“But no, listen, I didn’t think about it too much. Because I don’t think about Tottenham and I never did in fairness so it won’t change.”
This response is to a comment by The Special One hitting out at the Gunners after the White Lillies suffered a humiliating 3 – 1 defeat in the hand of Sheffield United at Brammal Lane.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss saw his side’s hope of a European participation given a huge blow with a master class act by Sheffield United.
Arsenal had earlier saw off a resilient Blades side in an FA Cup tie 2 – 1. After the match the Emirates side came out with the highlights on social media with the caption “It’s not easy beating Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Here’s a reminder of how it’s done”.
Not letting anything pass him, Mourinho declared angrily: “If they [Arsenal] were top of the league or fighting for top four in a really good moment they wouldn’t enjoy the problems of others,”he said.
“You only enjoy the problems of others when you are also in trouble. In the end it says more about them.
“They don’t have much to celebrate [so] they have to get every opportunity to do it. They are in a very similar situation to us in the table.”
However, Henry, who scored five times in north London derbies, admits he never thought about his rivals during his career and went further to declare the Portuguese’ dig at Arsenal “funny”.
